CMS PBJ (Payroll Based Journal)

Beginning in July 2016, long-term care (LTC) facilities will be required to report staffing and census information quarterly through a new software application, Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) identify staffing as a key consideration in a facility’s ability to provide high quality care.

As part of its outreach to consumers, CMS makes staffing information available to the public and factors it into the Nursing Home Five Star Quality Rating system.

Developed by CMS, Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) is a free software system longterm care facilities can use to report to CMS. Through PBJ, facilities can submit staffing and census data electronically.
