2 ACA Deadlines You Can't Afford to Miss

ACA reporting deadlines fall in first quarter of 2016

If you're an applicable large employer (ALE), under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) a major compliance hurdle looms on the horizon.

In the first quarter of 2016, ALEs are required to file ACA forms 1094-C and 1095-C for the first time.

Called "detailed and complex," the forms detail health coverage and employee information related to ACA. And forms aren't just due to the IRS. Employers are also required to provide a 1095-C to qualifying employees.

So, grab a pen and mark your calendar with these ACA filing deadlines:

  • February 1, 2016: Form 1095-C is due to every full time employee.
  • February 29, 2016: Forms 1095-C and 1094-C are due to the IRS. (If you're filing electronically, your deadline extends to March 31, 2016.)

ACA Enrollment Opens

November 1 marked first day of Act's third enrollment

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) opened its third enrollment on November 1st to less fanfare than in the past. But Health and Human Services projects 10 million Americans to be covered by the end of 2016.

The enrollment period is scheduled to last three months, giving employees time to select healthcare coverage plans on Healthcare.gov or state-sponsored insurance exchanges.

The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that 60 percent of the 32.3 million of the currently uninsured, non-elderly Americans could get coverage through ACA marketplaces.

The government has tapped organizations across the country to promote enrollment efforts and is focusing on groups of people who could qualify for coverage, including restaurant workers and seasonal employees with work visas.
